Associations

Host – MARSILEALES Marsileaceae: Marsilea drummondii A. Braun [Naumann & Balciunas 1997].

Biology

Naumann & Balciunas (1997) gave a detailed description of the biology: the larvae feed on species of the aquatic and semiaquatic fern Marsilea (Marsileaceae). The female places 1-3(-7) eggs in the frondlet margin and eggs hatch after 1-3 days. Only frondlets raised above the water surface are attacked. Larvae feed during the day on the dorsal leaf surface. The development includes three instars and takes 11-12 days after which the larvae burrow into moist soil near the water edge. The prepupal moult occurs in the soil and adults emerge after 7-9 days. Apparently adults do not feed.
